![]() these rifles had a slight difference in the bolt and stock and were known to be Winter issue. Germany mass produced this rifle in occupied yugoslovia using forced labor then later the sovites captured them by the warehouses and renamed them Kar98 model 1948 (with a few minor changes by stamping there symbol over the german one) although they were made a few years before that. I forgot what specific steel it was but during warmer weather would make the bolt appear loose but still functiond properly. It was a huge problem that lead to another type of Kar98 that had a bolt made of a different metal that has a lighter color too it. when the Kar 98 and the Moisen rifles got cold enough the metal around the bolt would contract making it verey hard to reload and move the bolt its self. One thing you never hear on tv or read in books is some of the problems with bolt action rifles performance in cold weather.
